ex-Soilent Green guitarist communes with insects via music

Donovan Punch (original member of Soilent Green) serenades ants:

No, really. This guy is out of his mind. Black Metal/Cockroach papercraft fetishism.

ARTIFICIAL BRAIN update 1/2012

Greener strings, longer hair, deeper vocals.

"While you guys are warming up - I'm cooling down."
Artificial Brain's demo is now out on a super secret slime covered 7" vinyl. We're playing an even more sketchy top secret record release show on January 18th for it with some crazy underground Long Island Metal bands that nobody even knows about yet. Dan's back from Revocation for a few weeks so all bets are off for for your boys. Check back for more details soon.

FORCED (Long Island)

I caught this power trio in Copiague, Long Island with The Communion on December 14th. I was taken aback by the intensity of their set, as well as the interesting and unexpected technical Black/Doom Metal they performed tightly and with sophisticated determination. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I think I hear the distant wailing echoes of the early 90's south shore pre-screamo hardcore bands every once in awhile. These guys have something dark, heartfelt and brutal going on right under our noses here on the 100 mile sandbar.... Download the demo on Bandcamp.

What's even cooler, if you go see them New Years Day in Glen Cove, Long Island with Axis, Detriment and a whole bunch of other bands I'm too old to have heard of, you can get in with a discount if you take the train and for free if it's your first hardcore show. Talk about keeping shit real and doing it for the kids....

Peanut Butter and Jelly with Ba -nay-nays

With Thanksgiving coming, I thought I'd share some time honored recipes from my simple Huntington Station kitchen for you to share with your family this holiday season. This first one I literally eat for breakfast almost every day-  it's quick, convenient, filling and somewhat healthy. For "americana", I've used all big name brands that are loaded in sugar and preservatives, but you can go to Trader Joes like a vegan black metal drummer if you want.

Step 1 - make a goddamn Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich like normal, only don't put it together yet.

Step 2 - Cut some bananas up on that bitch.

Step 3 - Put on "As the gods succumbed " (live version) by Adramelech.

Step 4 - Eat that shit proper.
Fuck yea, Adramelech.

Editors note: All similarities to a vegan friendly meal are purely coincidental.

Buckshot Facelift News

"Buckshot Facelift salutes the brave Firefighters, EMS, Police and humanitarian workers fighting to help our home in the wake of these events and the their aftermath. We would also like to acknowledge the I.B.E.W. workers from all parts of the United States who are doing dangerous work here to regain our electric services."

-Taken from our most recent blog update.

I know I joke around a lot and placed emphasis on Halloween and dead trees, but I just wanted to share a little reality as well.

Lots of new Buckshot Facelift news, check out our new preview song, "Touch the Monolith" featuring El Diablo Mike, and check out our campaign to finance the new album through supporters like you on Indiegogo.com for special merchandise and deals on the album.

Black Sun Aeon (Finland) - "Frozen"

Perfect song for Long Island tonight. Taken from the double cd "Routa", which was a concept album about the epic snowfall in Finland during 2009. I wore this album out during the brutal NY winter of 2010/11 and even listened to it last year wishing for snow during a winter full of barren skies. Be careful what you wish for...  This band is brilliant and deserves some credit.

Huntington Station Noreaster Update

Pictures taken 11/8/12 9 AM, Huntington Station, NY

Shout to everyone dealing with 8 inches of snow in Valley Stream (home of Artificial Brain), where some people are still without power. This fucked it up even if you were trying to ride a bike to avoid using gas.

Milhouse R.I.P. (Long Island Hardcore)

Milhouse was just one of the many frantic, shrieky DIY bands of the hardcore renaissance that took place here on Long Island in the mid to late nineties. They were the guys selling silk screened patches and 7"s while playing local church basements and VFW halls. Though many oldschool scene veterans around here may share contrasting personal opinions about the members of the band and the legacy they left, I prefer to let the music speak for itself and reminisce over their shadowy pseudo satanic angle and aesthetics of youthful Long Island angst. In many ways I see Milhouse as an unrefined precursor to the screamo and noise rock that would rise to popularity in the years following their demise. Unless I'm going crazy, it is also very easy to draw alot of parallels to primitive european  black metal in Milhouse's bleached out sandpaper vocals and dissonant, hollow chords. Regardless, they are one of my all time favorite bands and certainly a big influence on what I contribute to Buckshot Facelift. Enjoy.

How to sound smart when you're drunk

A lot of people hate on my boy but
HE DID THAT, THOUGH.

Deicide Claymation? WTF?

Am I the only person who didn't know about this? I still respect the shit out of Deicide. This is hilarious, the song's great and least they didn't record  "Radikult". Deicide made a cartoon of themselves and Morbid Angel became a real life cartoon.

Flawless Victory

Front if you want, but this is shit is dead on, rock solid METAL. RESPECT.

Chronozon Force Domination

I defy you to name a current pop artist that can put on a show like this with a full band and dancers. This is ultimate chronozon force domination of showmanship. Give Bobby Brown the next 3 and a half minutes of your life and you will come out stronger and more confident in the human spirit.

Hours of Free Proggy Swedish Metal

Count the strings.

Pandemonium from Sweden have been very busy the last 14 years making progressive, melodic Death/Doom Metal that at times might be just a little too euro-epic and over the top for some. I would recommend the 2002 full length album, "Insomnia". This release, at times, can be very crunchy and guttural, but also tastefully uses keyboards and Dream Theatre-like instrumental passages to stand alone as an eccentric offshoot of the classic Swedish Death and Doom Metal innovators. As opposed to genre-mashing bands like Between the Buried and Me, Pandemonium seamlessly blend dark Black and Death Metal influences with intricate, dream-like atmospheres, and consistently weave the different instrumentation and techniques they employ like a well written movie. Not the most brutal thing you're going to find, but something different and interesting for sure. They have decided to make available their entire back catalog for free download on their website, so you be the judge.
