The band name "Buckshot Facelift" explained

Taken from a statement on the Buckshot Facelift facebook page:

"We get asked about our name sometimes and how it reflects our views on suicide and violence in general.

The name "Buckshot Facelift" comes from the juxtaposition of glamour and violence in our society. We reject the money and sex driven fashion infatuation that has infected our culture and even our music scene (mass produced Luciferian pop music sounding vaguely like Metal, Hardcore or HipHop but with no integrity or stance on anything).

Glamorous Hollywood excess and casual portrayals of violence - Both are driving profits through the roof for old perverts in suits somewhere while they destroy our perceptions of humanity and reality."

-Adam got Phobia's "Grind your fucking head in" on 12" vinyl along with some Unholy Grave split 7"s. His cousin got a Hank Williams record. Fucking true.

Uncle Murda - "Warning"

 

 Be sure to watch for the scenes where he raps dressed up like Rambo, Freddy Krueger and Jason from Friday the 13th wearing a Run DMC hat for some reason. Who knew Uncle Murda was so into Halloween? There's also a few funny shots that are supposed to be making fun of P Diddy or Nick Cannon (or both). Although I gave up on the radio for hip hop a long time ago, I am subjected to alot of Hot97 and Power 105 (the only two hip hop stations in NY) at work. For some reason this song really clicked with me. I prefer Uncle Murdas more raw freestyles and mixtape material, but in context of being familiar with him, it's fun to watch him finally get some overkill-repetitive mind control radio rotation shine. Plus in the course of the song rival MCs get compared to Chico Debarge, Milli Vanilli and chihuahas. Maybe he'll knock out one of these Young Money rappers at an awards show or something. This is about as raw as it gets in the commercial hip hop game - a world where old white guys in suits dictate what's hot in the streets, dog.

Can you understand now how I go from Dead Infections  "A Chapter of Accidents" to this? What is more anti-christian and necro than finding beauty in the death of an enemy? That's a Viking value.

1998 - Harlem rapper G Dep signs to a $350, 000 record deal with Bad Boy Records and subsequently is used for a few singles and dropped, as is the case with most Bad Boy artists post-B.I.G.

2010 -  After scoring over 25 arrests since 2003, G Dep turns himself in to the police for a 17 year old cold case murder that he otherwise could have likely gotten away with for life. He did so to "get right with god".

But before all that, he cut the obscure single "Head over wheels" (a clever play on words for a song about bagging girls with his nice car) in 1996. Like fellow Harlem natives Camron and Mase, his laid back flow lets the rhymes fall where they may - even though the rapid, multi-syllabic rhyme schemes betray a more serious writer. This is the drawn out DJ Premier remix - a hazy, relaxed groove that makes you feel like you're at a barbecue on the roof at Dan Olivencia's old place. Light something up to this hypnotic jam for G Dep behind bars tonight.
