ex-Soilent Green guitarist communes with insects via music

Donovan Punch (original member of Soilent Green) serenades ants:

No, really. This guy is out of his mind. Black Metal/Cockroach papercraft fetishism.

ARTIFICIAL BRAIN update 1/2012

Greener strings, longer hair, deeper vocals.

"While you guys are warming up - I'm cooling down."
Artificial Brain's demo is now out on a super secret slime covered 7" vinyl. We're playing an even more sketchy top secret record release show on January 18th for it with some crazy underground Long Island Metal bands that nobody even knows about yet. Dan's back from Revocation for a few weeks so all bets are off for for your boys. Check back for more details soon.

Killharmonic (Indonesia) - 2012 one song promo

Unique and talented progressive death metal. They quickly go from a flashy tech death intro into an unexpected atmospheric jazz interlude with guttural vocals - things pick up speed for awhile with a straight-forward barrage of brutal, technical Death Metal. Low end vocals, relentless drumming and twin guitar shredding are all done just right. These guys will not disappoint anyone looking for a new fix of Chuck Schuldiner inspired metal, but they seem to channel in  plenty of Suffocation and Immolation at times to, which makes the aforementioned atmospheric part right in the beginning stand out even more. This is not a perfectly polished flawless recording, but it is a one song promo of  some hungry, inspired young Indonesian metalheads. These guys are obviously well versed in the European and American traditions of technical, brutal Death Metal and are ready to put their own spin on it. I found this, as well as a free EP from 2009, on DeathMetalInvasion.com - here's the link:

Sarsekim - "Fathom the Spheres" (2009)

Sarsekim from Australia do a really interesting take on middle of the road Death crossed with some old European sounding passages, never over thrashing or teching out too far, but keeping a nice, professional balance between classic oldschool Florida style Death Metal and deep, melodic flourishes of progressive guitar fusion. The vocals are a little deeper and more brutal than the traditional high pitch Schuldiner rasp that a lot of Death influenced bands go for, which never appealed very much to me anyway (All respect to Chuck though, R.I.P.).This is a very interesting record that grew on me after a few listens, and what I like is that it satisfies my need for exotic arrangements, rhythms and melodies without ever leaving Death Metal in the background. From what I recall, this album was self financed and released for free, but the website is now down so I have no official link. A bunch of other blogs have it so if you have a computer and Internet you'll probably be able to figure something out. This might be another one to give a second listen to if you're still bummed by the new piece of garbage Morbid Angel album.

The Record Reserve - 126B Laurel Hollow rd. in Northport, NY.

-It is notable that Mercyful Fate's "Melissa" was playing the whole time we were there.

-Adam got Phobia's "Grind your fucking head in" on 12" vinyl along with some Unholy Grave split 7"s. His cousin got a Hank Williams record. Fucking true.

Max Roach invented the one foot blast

True story.

Exactly one minute in, Max displays chronozon force domination of the one foot blast. Keep watching for a closeup of his footwork (nice shoes).

Another day of life

While I'm at it here's an old jazz song that got me through many weary nights drinking rum while Big Frank smoked cigars and my old life passed before my eyes into today's godless path. I got this on the original vinyl at the bottom of a bookshelf full of records in the Salvation Army of Hempstead while on my way to an Artificial Brain rehearsal. It was one of those finds that justifies all the hours of my life I've wasted looking in thrift store record bins. I never looked at piano the same.

Still alive for now

Sorry for the hush in fresh squid but I've been very busy working overtime and practicing different disciplines of Death Metal. Every day I listen to this song on vinyl to test whether or not I still have a soul. So far Satan still hasn't scarfed the last little scraps because this piece of music moves me every time I hear it. Some of you may recognize it as the main sample in the MF Doom song "Friends".

We definitely listened to this in the Artificial Brain rehearsal space once.
