"The very last Biolich show ever was at a venue called Brooklyn Fireproof, I'm pretty sure that's the name. Walter booked it, good dude. He later went on some crazy eskimo fishing voyage. I remember Tom tried to play with only a snare, like 2 cymbals and not toms but hadn't rehearsed like that and it went horrible. Andrew broke a string and I had to talk awkwardly to the crowd for what seemed like 15 minutes. I also threw up into a beer bottle during the last song. Andrew and I rolled a blunt in an adjacent room afterwards and smoked it on the fire escape. Nobody, including us, knew that was going to be our last show. Things were already weird, they just kept getting weirder."

Recycled art

While on an excursion to the Smithtown Recycling Center here on Long Island, I noticed a small painting deliberately propped up on one one of the dumpsters. Though I am still awaiting confirmation, I believe there is a chance that this painting was made by my old friend, Galen Pittman - a local Huntington artist and jazz musician (we tried many times, unsuccessfully, to get him to play session drums or guitar for Biolich before we met Andrew and Dan). How it got there is anyone's guess, but it was a nice wink from the universe on 12-12-12.

Take a break for nature

Small, orange/reddish mushrooms on the path where I walk my dogs. My camera does them no justice.
I worked here for a few years when it was a farm (Biolich era) , now it is a nature trail / soccer field.
Death Metal and Grindcore is born in my soul right here.

Last jalapeno / chili harvest of the year. R.I.P.  Arthur Lopez, Long Island hero.

My Mother tells me this is called "False Mallow", a deciduous weed for our area. I planted it in with my vegetables this year in hope that the flowers would attract bees for pollination.

What did you do this weekend?

Because Dan Olivencia was kicking it with Harley Flanagan, doggie. It's still the fuckin' Age of Quarrel out there.

And just in case you were inclined to believe the hype, peep this article I found that sheds a little light on Harleys side of the recent Cro-mags beef. If I ever kicked Dan out of a band or replaced him on bass in a band, I'd start watching my back right about now. I was just kidding that time I said Old Boar was over, doggy, for real. It's all love. Don't even sweat it, we could rehearse tonight.

Old Boar / Copremesis split BBQ

Even though I wasn't with my 2004 Team this weekend, I'm glad they were still keeping other traditions alive.

Maryland Slow Fest (formerly Maryland Deathfest) post

"Famous Thai Shrimpcakes"
Just got back from the Maryland Stoner rock and black metal festival, had a great time despite the fact that death metal bands are becoming an endangered species on the lineup these days...
Big shout to "chicken suit guy", "Nocturnus shirt guy"," the grey twins", "Face tat", "short Antimo" and all the other people I don't know but who come back every year, just like me. I didn't see "customized fitted hat kid" or "Filipino Michael Jackson dancer" this year, you guys need to come back hard.

Here are the facts:

-Napalm Death were complete pros.
-Suffocation were complete bros. Made me proud to be from Long Island.
-Luisma from Haemmorhage = best frontman in goregrind now that Antimo's out of the game.
-Morbid Angel pretended the new album never happened and we were all so eager to play along.
- Mortuary Drape played the last set of the whole fest and got me so worked up I wished I could press resart.
-Andrew broke a string on stage.
- Jim cut his hair.
-Kevin Bacon's son sang a song with Nasum.
-Bloody Phoenix has two hot chicks singing for them.
-Backslider repped shit hard. Don't fuck with those little dudes.
-Anvil was fun, but what death metal band lost a spot so they could play?
-Macabre and Demigod should have played much later. I thought it was supposed to be a "Death" fest.
-Scotnick is gross.
- More people know Biolich now than the year we played.
-Tremont hotel = pleasure doing business with you
-Brain Campaign rushed the liquor store for 30 racks of budweiser right quick while crusties were critiquing ales.
- We listened and danced to a lot of Phil Collins this weekend. like a lot.

I love you, Maryland Deathfest, but if you don't step up your Death Metal and Goregrind game next year, I think we're through.

Another Biolich guitar cover

"Puppeteered Corpse Trap"
They dance the waltz of puppeteered corpses
in a room the size of time (with...)
Twice as many eyes as faces
Twice as  many lies to hide the cases
in a room the size of time with no walls, only books

I don't remember the rest. I'll look it up if he learns the rest of the song.

Dan Olivencia : Craftsman

"Polar Bear Cream"

Old Boar : Barbaric Sandwich Mysticism
Dan came out to Long Island Monday to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day by playing some riffs on his home made bass guitar. That's right, he made it himself, saws to strings. He plugged it into my Gorilla Bass Amp that used to double as the PA system at Biolich rehearsals all those years ago, and layed out the beginnings of our new band... Finally, primitive guttural bleakness from Will and Dan of Biolich (The fat half).

God damn it

Today was a really hard day, and I have had the life beaten out of me by time, women, drug addicts, myself and Death Metal. But then I found this. And now I have to feel better.

that's my bassbro.

"Morals like frozen piss" is a line from a Thought Industry song

While editing that last post, I stumbled across this - a new Biolich guitar cover on youtube - posted just earlier this month. Brought back memories of when we wrote that song in Andrews basement. For the record, I came up with the little guitar/bass/drum/vox pass-off routine between 1:04 - 1:10 - I'm all about teamwork, bro. The birds at the end of the song during the fadeout were completely accidental, I swear. We recorded the drums in a friends basement and he left the window open. We couldn't have pulled that off if we tried. One more thing, I have NEVER performed clean vocals on any recording for any band, ever - it's not me, I swear. Anyway, nice job, dude, I'm glad someone got something out of all the shit we went through.

And here is the original "Morals..." guitar cover by the guitarist of Level Above Human. Ironically, Kylesa was one of Dan Olivencias favorite bands around the Biolich era. Level Above Human sent me their EP a few years ago and it never left my car. As a matter of fact I was just playing it last night for Adam Rotella and he remarked that it reminded him of Damnable from Poland. Certainly a fitting comparison in terms of over the top guttural vocals and powerhouse, wall of sound death metal. L.A.H. are a modern beast all to themselves, though, and push the barriers of this style with jazz and electronic music excursions to break up the breakneck gravy gurgles that might bring to mind a certain shitty band of NY wierdos that broke up forever in 2006.Here they are  keeping it sick and displaying awesome hair in their Gothenburg rehearsal spot. Apparently somebody says something funny in Swedish at the end of the video.

Biolich @ Rock Star Bar, Brooklyn. 3/9/06. Notice Ra (Black baseball
jersey, left/above Andrews head) singing along. I am buried in the crowd.
This was a Palindrome show booked by Mary and Walter. Sigh...
All bullshit aside, you creepy Biolich fans that keep coming out of the woodwork are the reason I'm still doing this and singing for Artificial Brain instead of selling my microphone and impregnating a woman who has good credit. One of you freaks even made this:

I obviously know who it is, and so will Andrew and Dan. There was only one Biolich fan so meticulous and precise as to know the inner workings of the band good enough to get this so right. You marvelous bastard. Well, Biolich is definitely dead forever, boys. And for the record, I still do not condone the unofficial leak of "Sparrows and Wheel barrows". If you rock that shit I don't want to know about it.

"May those hollow sockets never find eyes to see the beast that stands in it's place"
-Biolich, " Time Kills Everything"

Throwback

From the Biolich / Demilich 2006 tour. Doing my duty to fight racism in America. Shot by Dan Olivencia.
While I'm at it, here's some Biolich releases for free download. Merry Christmas, fuckers.

Biolich 2001 demo

Biolich - 1997 demo (cheap Demilich ripoff)

And just to clear things up, as I saw some shit talking on youtube , this was obviously a ridiculous joke and typical of the type of humor we relished in during the Biolich era. The whole act is something we did to blow off steam about all the tough guy Jersey shore bands we were around back home in NY. You think we pioneered guttural emo by calling women "bitches"? Thanks to Adam for always having my back.

Oldschool

CLEAN

When we were young. I think this is probably close to ten years ago. OK actually almost 7 years ago - 3/19/2005, Biolich/Copremesis/Lynched/Incarnate at the Almost Home Cafe. It was Andrews 7th birthday or something. Lynched had a homemade DVD they were giving out, If I can find it I'll post it.

Memories

(Dan Olivencia pushing ... I think Paulo. Let me know.) Classic shenanigans. Pretty sure this is from the Biolich/Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition/Kevorkian/Utopia Banished show in New Jersey - probably 2002 or 03 if I'm not mistaken. I remember SCD was touring in support of the "2" album and Andrew copped the big boy 12" vinyl. I got the more practical, but less cult, digipack cd version.

COUCH (Ex - Biolich)

Just heard some rough mixes of Dans new one man project of noisy, lurching Doom metal, "Couch". Look out for the 3 song demo soon on a new tape label I'm starting just for the occasion. For those who don't know, Dan Olivencia has played bass in Biolich, Castevet, Copremesis, Omnicron, Omega Red, Ooie Gooie, and Two Fisted Law (guitar). When asked about Couch, Dan explained that it was much easier playing all the instruments himself because it gave him the creative freedom he feels he lacked in Biolich. In fact, the coming Couch demo will feature one song Dan wrote for Biolich but didn't get to record before the band broke up. Don't expect it to sound anything like bands Dan has been in though, Couch takes the relentless grinding death metal of his past and slows it down to a grueling, multi-layered wash of noisy black doom highlighted by occasional keyboards and metal lead guitars. It's been too long since this guy has unleashed his talent on the underground scene so check back soon for more info....
